Philosophy

A transformation is taking place in the investment universe. It is vital to understand that demographics will worsen over the next thirty-five years and this is already having a dramatic influence on asset prices. We are feeling the impact of a declining and aging population, on growth and on wealth creation / destruction. This is magnified by the large levels in private and public debt in the world. The impact suggests that slow growth, low inflation and low rates of return can be expected to be with us long into the future.

But it is not such a dark environment. Technological advance and digitization are advancing rapidly, which will benefit society and cause exciting creation and Schumpeterian destruction of wealth in tech, energy, finance and consumer markets.

In such an environment capital preservation is key. In order to generate the most secure returns, our investors should own well researched high yielding corporate bonds and loans and invest in equities in a market neutral fashion to benefit from corporate change without relying on rising prices for gain.

This conservative, neutral, protected investment approach is a hallmark of Signet’s portfolio management and ascribes itself perfectly to the future we expect for our investors.
